I just wanted to touch base with you all about Sunday, February 5th. Tiffany and I are going to be out of town this weekend (Jan 27 to 30th) and won't be able to hold a practice on Monday night. Next Saturday, Feb 4th, there are guitar workshops from 10-12 and 1-3pm. I am not going to call a practice on a Friday or Saturday night so we will just have to be ready at 7am on Sunday morning.

I have started to work out a set list, but I know that these are a few I would like to do. Pretty sure this is what it is going to be, so if you can sit down and listen and start getting a feel for your parts, that would be great!

Hello Team!

Happy New Year! It has been since Christmas Eve since I led worship and I have really enjoyed the break! I hope you all are feeling refreshed and invigorated for 2012! So I take it you all read Pastor Clay's emails over the past couple weeks about some changes to the worship team. Here is the NEW team (with some of the OLD too).

Worship Team Update

Dear worship team, hope you all had a great Christmas – and are ready to kick in to a new year!

Josh and I are both super excited about the upcoming year, and also how God is crafting and changing things on our teams! With that in mind, I have some updates for the team.

First some sad news – Brenda has decided to take a sabbatical from the worship team starting in January. Please join me in letting Brenda know that we have loved having her voice and flute on the team over the years, and we will miss her!

I would also like to ask you all to join me in welcoming some new members to our praise team:

Erinn Brunell, John Ontelan, David Rodriguez, and Andrea Buzzell!

Erin is an all-around musician; she plays bass, guitar, drums, sax, and a few other instruments that I don't even know about! Erinn has been playing bass on my team for the past few weeks, and will move over to guitar.
John Ontelan is an accomplished guitarist and bass player who is from Guam, and he'll be joining my team on bass.
David Rodriguez, Melissa Mroz's son, is a high-schooler from CCHS, has been playing drums for the youth, and will be making his debut on the 'big show'!
Andrea Buzzell is a vocalist who moved here from SoCal (she met Chelsea while in Cali!) who will also be joining my team.

Join me in welcoming these folks to the CCW worship family!

That being said, we are also making a few adjustments to the team lineup:

Allen Baltezore will be moving over to Josh's team
Melissa Mroz will be moving to Josh's team

You should already have the sheet music for these, but I am attaching them anyway. The song I am most concerned about is Little Drummer Boy, which is kinda a rocked up version done by Jars of Clay...but I want MORE drums/percussion. We will work it out!

Worship Team: Upper Room & Music

Hi team – some of you may have heard that I am praying about starting up the "Upper Room" worship night again in 2012. I am really excited about doing it!

A few things I wanted to share with everyone before things really get rolling.

#1 – Obviously, not everyone will be able to play or sing every time we meet. I will need to be prayerfully selective about how the teams are constructed. On the one hand I don't want to leave anyone out, but on the other hand I am not sure that I have a peace about just popping everyone into a rotation and calling it a day. Josh and I will be talking and praying about the dates, the team lineup, etc. What I would like to encourage the team members to do is be flexible with regards to how things move forward.

#2 – the worship will be DIFFERENT from what we do on Sunday morning. It will be softer, more 'lingering,'

Etc. I am attaching some links to the type of music we'll be doing. This type of music and worship setting it going to require that the musicians develop some very specific skills:

Ability to play with spirit-led creativity and inspiration
Ability to play spontaneously in a key
Ability to sense where the leader is going to to follow

So what I am saying is that being a part of the Upper Room will be more than just showing up for a practice and doing a set of music. There will be spiritual and musical preparation involved -

#3 – MOST IMPORTANT – a spiritual sense of worshipping with your instrument, being led by the Holy Spirit, and develop a spiritual sensitivity to the environment.

I am sending out the set lists for the conference and for Sunday separately because of the different teams and the number of song sheets attached! The following is the set is for the first session on Saturday morning.

The session starts at 8:30am. I guess breakfast is from 8 - 8:30am. I propose that we grab breakfast and meet in one of the children's classrooms that has a table and regular chairs. We will take some time reviewing the set list and then time in prayer.

Worship Practices & Men's Conf

Team Update

Last week we talked about future worship practices for CLAYS TEAM. As we discussed, I would like to start doing practices on Monday nights (on the weeks that Josh is not practicing), but since that is my day off and my wife and I like to have some free time, I have made an agreement that I will only do one practice on Monday, and the other practice that month on Sat.

So we are looking at the following schedule:

Music Update - Sept 11

Hi team – great practice last night! I know it was a long practice, and the songs are a bit of a stretch, but I sense that the Lord wants to show Himself this Sunday! I am really excited not only to worship, but to see God move in the hearts of His people.

I was sent this scripture today - (thanks Vic!)

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect. -- Matt 5:43-48

With the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 this Sunday, what a wonderful time to practice what Jesus taught. I believe God wants to show that He loves ALL mankind, even the militant Muslims that want to kill us. Let us pray for them, and be perfect, just as our Father in heaven is perfect!

I encourage you all to pray for the service this week – that hearts would be changed, addictions broken, marriages and relationships healed… that the congregation would bow before the Living God worship Him in spirit and truth.

Also, listen to the songs – allow them to permeate your heart and mind – as Eph 5 encourages us:

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord… -- Eph 5:18-19

Practice 7 am Sunday – that will allow us plenty of time to go through the set, and also time to meet for prayer before the service.

Worship Team Update

Hi team! Hope you all are having a great week – the weather is so much cooler, I love this time of year!

First let me say that I see that our worship team (both teams) has been really ramping up in skill, musical ability, and most of all – spiritual oneness. I am getting feedback from people about it – and people are blessed. The biggest compliment is not that "the music is awesome" but "we are worshipping!"

Being part of the worship team is hard work. We count on you to listen to and learn music, come to practices, show up super early on Sunday morning, and basically spend 6 hours at church. But the fruit that comes from your sacrifice is beautiful – Gods people are ushered into the throne room of the Most High God!

Also, you may have noticed a few new people on the team: Allen Baltezore and Sierra Fairly. WELCOME to our worship team! I feel that both Allen and Sierra will add depth and harmony to the teams. We are blessed to serve with you.

On another note, this past week Josh and I have been looking at the team structure, and based on some requests by people and also to continue to grow as a ministry, we are making some minor changes to the team lineup.

So here is a look at the new team structure:

One of the things that God has shown me over the years is to never get too comfortable where I am. God is always moving, ministry is always changing. Just like our physical bodies, ministries are meant to change with the dynamics of the church, and grow by adding new people from time to time. We get the blessing of working with different people, building new relationships, and allowing God to minister through us in a different way.

I look forward to the next "new thing" God does in the worship ministry!

Hi team! I am sitting in an interstate hotel somewhere in Arkansas – not my fav place to be – but it has hot water and a clean bed. Enough said!

Today while driving through Texas I put together a set list for us. Chelsea will be singing with us this Sunday, and will be leading a song that she lead at the School of Worship graduation – Awakening.

Practice: I would like to have a practice on Saturday morning, at 10:30 right after church-wide prayer. I think it would be good for the worship team to come at 9 for prayer, and then we'll practice afterwards.

Hi team – so I am glad that we escaped any bad weather, but as usual whenever you cancel something – nothing happens!

But either way, we will be practicing Saturday at noon – see you there! I assume a 2 hour practice to get the both sets ready – looking forward to playing with you guys and gals again!

Hi guys – I just had my bell rung by God – AGAIN... And I wanted to share it with you, and involve you in my ‘bell-ringing’.

I have been talking and thinking for the past several weeks about the fact that we need some more musicians on the team. Specifically we need:

another drummer
another acoustic player
another bass player
another electric player
another key player (so roy can play more sax!)

But I have been remiss in that I have not ASKED YOU ALL TO BEGIN TO SPECIFICALLY PRAY for God to bring these people to our church and to our team.

So I am going to make a specific request of you all – please pray with me and let’s ask God to bring these people to us, to join us in changing our world for God’s kingdom.

Hi team! just a quick note, the conference has been REALLY GREAT, and i will have a lot to share with you when we return.

The theme this year is "in His presence", emphasizing that when we lead worship, we are leading people into the presence of the living God! We are inviting them to taste and see that the Lord is good! When they come, they should experience the power and glory of God.

it is a holy calling, and we are privileged to be called to do this work for the Lord!

First – I have attached the updated music from the last practice.

Second – Tammy is making up books for you all. Some of you may have music that you have made notes on – NO PROBLEM – she will give you the books this Sunday and you can replace the music she put in with the sheets that you have. But I would like to ask that everyone use the books, as it will keep the music together and in order. I would like to minimize distractions during worship from music falling down or someone not having the right song up on the stand.

Last, our next practice will be this Saturday, from 9 – 11 (or till we finish!). Below are the two set lists we will be practicing. I would like to practice in a different order so that we can make sure to work on the songs that might be more difficult.

Worship Set and Team - Sunday July 18

Hi Team! Well, this will be my first week back at church, and I am SUPER excited! It will be good to be back in the saddle, so to speak. Because of the fact that I have been out of the pulpit and worship for over a month now, I plan on ‘easing’ back into things. Josh has been doing a great job at leading the team, and so we are going to have him continue to lead sets as needed.

This week we have a little hitch, as Josh and Tiffany will be in Maryland for a wedding, and I am not yet ready to take on the full load of leading the team and teaching two services, so I am going to once again call upon my son Chandler to assist. This week Chandler will be leading the team, but I will be playing guitar with the team to add some support. The team will also need to change a little to accommodate Josh and Tiffany being gone. That said, here is the lineup:

I have some info for this coming Sunday and next…

First – this coming Sunday, June 6, Josh will be leading worship. Here is the team:

*NOTE: I had told you last week that we would practice on Wed of this week – I WAS WRONG. Josh is leading, and he cannot practice on Wed due to his small group… so he would like to practice with you all on THURSDAY, at 7 pm. I apologize for the confusion.

Further note: The fact that Josh and tiffany have small group on Wed throws a kink into my plans to hold practices on Wed nights. So… we will have to look at another night. For the summer we can practice on Thursdays since the Women’s study is on break. So I propose that we keep the same schedule, but just move it to Thursday nights – you guys let me know if that works or not.
